Newcastle station is a historic building and as such has undergone a programme of enhancements to improve accessibility.   Every platform is accessible for wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, parents with pushchairs and people with large luggage.


Platforms 1, 2, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are on level access from the station concourse. 

Platforms 3 and 4 can be accessed via a lift as well as ramps or stairs. Platforms 5 and 7 are accessed from the footbridge, via ramp or steps. 

The ramp on the footbridge is on a moderate gradient.  It is therefore advised that some wheelchair users may require assistance.

Ticket Office

The ticket office is a modern glass structure situated on the main station concourse.  There are 2 entrances into the ticket office with automatic sliding doors.  There are 14 counter positions with the majority of the counters suitable for a wheelchair user.  Each counter position has an Induction loop and a chip and pin machine.  For passengers unable to access the counters there are 7 ticket machines available within the ticket office.  The machines accept card payment only.  Passengers who are unsure or unable to use these services or those who require assistance with their journey should contact the station in advance of travelling on:

Arriving and Departing the Station

The station has 2 entrances.  Both entrances provide level access to the station concourse.  The main entrance is on Neville Street.  There is a taxi rank and drop off point in front of this entrance.  The second entrance is from a car park adjacent to the station concourse.   The car park entrance is on Neville Street.  The car park has a number of accessible spaces which border the station concourse providing direct and level access. 

There is an entrance from the Central Station Metro onto the station concourse.  Passengers may use lift, escalator or steps to gain access to the station from the Metro. 


There is Male and Female Toilets a Unisex Accessible Toilets and a baby changing facility on platforms 3 and 4.
